Endocrinologist - Dr Amelia Fernandes
Dr Amelia Fernandes is a Specialist Endocrinologist, a Visiting Medical Officer (Honorary) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours from Monash University, Dr Fernandes completed her junior medical and basic physician training at St Vincent's Hospital. Subsequently, she undertook advanced training in Endocrinology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she was awarded the RPA Acknowledging Colleague's Excellence Award and RPA Greener Pastures Award. She was admitted as a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians after completing her fellowship year at Prince of Wales and Westmead Hospital.
Dr Fernandes manages a wide variety of endocrine conditions including diabetes (such as gestational, type 1 and type 2), thyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), osteoporosis, obesity, adrenal and pituitary diseases. She has a keen interest in maternal and fetal health, with a strong dedication to enhancing pregnancy outcomes for women affected by endocrine conditions such as diabetes and thyroid disorders. Her current PhD is centred around optimizing women's reproductive health to improve fertility and pregnancy outcomes.
Her research interests have prompted her involvement in national and international conferences, ensuring she remains up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices. Dr Fernandes’ caring nature shines through in every interaction she has with her patients.
